Best DeFi Yield Aggregators for Treasury

March 25, 2026·3 min read·By the Metamoonshots team

Treasury yield is a risk decision that happens to produce a return. For a project treasury the objective is not maximum APY — it is that runway is still there in eighteen months, in an asset you can actually spend. This page groups the venue types by risk profile, sets out what to verify before deploying, and covers the treasury policy that should exist before any of it.

Covered on this page (alphabetical, not ranked): Beefy Finance, Convex Finance, Harvest Finance, Idle Finance, Morpho, Origin DeFi, Pendle, Sommelier, Spark Protocol, Yearn Finance.

We have not audited these organisations, we publish no scores or price tables, and no placement on this page is paid for.

How the options differ

  • Auto-compounding vaults. Automate harvesting and reinvestment across underlying pools. Convenience layered on top of someone else's risk; you inherit both.
  • Lending markets. Supply assets for variable rates. Simplest risk to reason about, with utilisation and oracle risk to monitor.
  • Yield-tokenisation protocols. Split principal and yield for fixed-rate exposure. Powerful for matching a known runway, and more complex to unwind.
  • Delegated or managed strategies. A third party allocates on your behalf. Introduces manager risk on top of protocol risk.

What to verify before you commit

  1. Write the treasury policy first: what percentage may leave stablecoins, maximum exposure per protocol, and who signs.
  2. Decompose the yield. Real fee revenue, token emissions and leverage are three different risks wearing the same APY number.
  3. Check withdrawal behaviour under stress — queues, exit fees and historical peak utilisation, not just the happy path.
  4. Verify audit and incident history, including how the team handled the last exploit in their category.
  5. Confirm custody and signing. Multisig thresholds, hardware signers, and a documented recovery path if a signer is unavailable.

Mistakes we see most often

  • Chasing emissions-driven APY with operating runway rather than with a ring-fenced allocation.
  • Concentrating the entire treasury in one protocol because the rate was best that week.
  • No policy, so the decision is made by whoever is watching the dashboard.

FAQ

Should a project treasury farm yield at all?

A conservative allocation in the most liquid, best-understood venues is defensible. Operating runway for the next twelve months should stay in stablecoins under your own custody.

What is a realistic target?

Whatever the lowest-risk lending markets pay, minus your operational overhead. If a strategy pays far above that, the difference is compensation for a risk you should be able to name before deploying.

Who should approve treasury deployments?

At least two signers under a written policy, with a scheduled review. Ad-hoc deployment by a single person is the most common cause of treasury loss that has nothing to do with a hack.
